      03/07Bike fit

      Frame size finder · illustrative

      Two measurements. One starting point.

Stand against a wall in socks with a book snug between your legs, spine up, and measure floor to spine — that's your inseam. The finder gives a starting range; a proper fit ($120, sample price, about 75 minutes) sets saddle, reach and cleats on your own bike.

      Riding style

General information only — not medical advice. Injuries, flexibility and how you like to ride all change the answer.

      Suggested frame size

      —

Illustrative sizes only — every maker measures frames differently. Always test ride before you buy.

      04/07New bikes

      Built, checked and fitted in-house

Four kinds of bike, one careful build.

Every new bike is assembled on our stands, torqued, test-ridden and set to your measurements before it leaves — with a six-week tune once the cables have settled.

      05/07E-bikes

      Test rides Thursdays, 4–7 pm

Red Hill and Mount Ainslie, minus the dread.

We sell, service and set up e-bikes for commuters and cargo families. Bring your helmet for a test ride — we'll set the saddle height and walk you through the assist levels before you roll out.

      Mid-drive motor

Sits at the cranks and works through your gears. Natural on steep climbs; wears chains faster, so budget for one a year.

      Hub motor

Sits in the rear wheel. Simpler, quieter and cheaper to run — best for flatter commutes and bike paths.

      • 01Frosty night? Bring the battery inside and charge it at room temperature.
      • 02Parking it for a while? Leave the battery at 30–60% and top it up monthly.
      • 03Wash with a damp cloth — never a pressure hose near the motor or connectors.

General notes · read before riding

      Riding to work in Canberra

Six notes from the workshop bench — for frosty mornings, swooping season and everything in between.

      1. Frost on the paths

Winter mornings often start below zero. Drop tyre pressure a little for grip and take bike-path corners wide and upright.

      2. Swooping season

Magpies swoop roughly August to November. Walk past known nests or take the next street; don't stop and stare the bird down.

      3. Lights at both ends

White up front and red at the back from dusk. A flashing rear light helps on grey afternoons too.

      4. Wind off the lake

A calm morning around the lake can be a headwind by five. Pack a spare layer and plan for a slower ride home.

      5. Lock it like you mean it

A D-lock through the frame and rear wheel, to something bolted down. Quick-release wheels can go walking — ask us about locking skewers.

      6. Ring early, pass wide

Shared paths are busy with walkers, prams and dogs. A bell two seconds before you pass beats a surprised shout.
