4WD tours from Alice Springs, NT

Red earth, big sky, one day at a time.

Gorge walks, dune sunsets and nights under more stars than you’ve ever seen — in groups of eight or fewer. Drive our five-day Big Loop on the map: 1,054 km of ranges, sand country and salt pans.

Illustrative topographic map of the five-day Big Loop from Alice Springs: west along the ranges to Range Camp, south-west into dune country, south to a salt lake, east to a station camp near a sandstone gorge, then north back to town — 1,054 km in total.

Pick a day — the 4WD drives there and the odometer keeps count.

Day by day

Every day has one long drive, one good walk and one camp we’d happily come back to. Times are approximate — the country, the weather and the wildlife set the pace.

    After dark, it gets better

Out here the Milky Way throws shadows. Every camp is chosen for a low horizon and no lights for kilometres, so star-gazing is part of every night — telescope, red torches and a guide who knows the southern sky.

    Questions we get

If yours isn’t here, call the office or send us a note from the booking form — a real person answers.

    Do I need 4WD experience?

No. Your guide does all the driving. You ride, spot wildlife, and maybe help boil the billy.

    Is there phone reception?

Only close to town. Every vehicle carries a satellite phone and an emergency beacon, and we check in with the office each evening.

    What are the toilets like?

Mostly bush toilets and a portable loo with a very good view. Station Camp on Day 4 has hot showers.

Can you cater for dietary needs?

Yes — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and most allergies, as long as you tell us when you book.

What if it rains or a track closes?

It’s rare, but it happens. We re-route on open, safe tracks. If a tour can’t run, you choose a new date or a refund (sample policy).

Our tours travel on the lands of the Traditional Owners of Central Australia. We follow park rules and signage, keep to open tracks, and respect areas that are closed to visitors.
