The flag locker

Run your name up the halyard

Every letter from A to Z has its own flag in the International Code of Signals. Type a name — yours, the birthday crew's, or the boat you'd love to own — and we'll hoist it. Tap any flag to see what it says flown on its own.

Letters A–Z become flags. A space ties a knot in the line; numbers and symbols are skipped.

Flags follow the International Code of Signals patterns, drawn in our own palette. The Code gives numbers their own pennants, so digits and symbols are left out here.

Before you cast off

Briefing, weather & licences

On the jetty · 15 minutes, every hire

  1. Lifejackets on and fitted — we size the kids first.
  2. Start, steer, stop: a practice loop past the moorings with us aboard.
  3. The map: 4-knot zones, swimming spots and where it gets shallow at low tide.
  4. How to anchor, and how to pick up a public mooring.
  5. The sky and the fuel gauge — what to watch, and when to head home.
  6. Something feels off? Our number is on the dash. Call and we'll come out.

The weather call

Example wind dial: 14 knots forecast, inside the go zone. Above 20 knots is the no-go zone. 0102030 kn

We read the marine forecast for Pittwater at 6 am. Winds over 20 knots or a storm warning, and we call it: pick a new date or take a full refund. If it turns while you're out, we'll ring you in and refund the unused hours.

Sample policy for a fictional business. The dial shows an example day.

Do I need a boat licence?

It depends on the boat, how fast it goes and how you'll use it. Requirements vary — we'll check with you when you book, before anyone pays.

Hold a boat licence? Bring it on the day. Don't have one? Tell us — some of the fleet may still suit, or add a skipper to any engine-powered boat.

Questions from the jetty

Good to know

Still wondering? Ring the jetty on (02) 5550 7391 — we pick up between hires.

Can we bring the dog?

On Bluebottle and Long Lunch, yes. Bring a towel and a water bowl — we lend dog lifejackets for pups up to 15 kg.

Are little kids okay on board?

Absolutely. We fit lifejackets from 12 kg up, and little ones wear theirs the whole time. House rule.

Can we bring food and drinks?

BYO is welcome and Long Lunch has a BBQ plate. Whoever's driving stays sober — same as on the road.

What if we're back late?

Give the jetty a ring. Late returns are charged in 30-minute blocks at the sample rate, and we'd rather you came in slow than rushed.

We've never driven a boat. Is that okay?

That's most of our guests. The practice loop is part of every briefing, and the kayaks and Long Lunch are the gentlest start.

Where do we meet you?

At our jetty in Bayview, NSW. Directions and parking notes come with your confirmation.
